Planned to see Balmaseda major attractions and it was comfortable base for visiting all of them. The hotel location was fantastic in a castle out of Game of Thrones.

I had a good stay with a breakfast included and thoroughly enjoyed the location, it was ideal near centre of town. My room included central heating, a work desk and a TV.

Shame the bathroom was old.

The unit we got was nicely decorated with Kettle, excellent shower, for instance.

Lovely historic building in a medieval town close to a ferry port. Lots of character, interesting little town, and a secure car park. Great staff, comfortable rooms, free wifi, and a nice on-site restaurant and bar. Perfect for families and car travelers.

The room was spacious and had a comfortable bed and a kettle, the shower was excellent, and overall, I had a great stay.

This place is beautiful and conveniently located near Bilbao, ferries, and restaurants.

The location was perfect, just a few minutes' walk from the town. The building itself had a fascinating and beautiful architecture, which added to the charm of our stay. The bedrooms were spacious and the social areas were tastefully decorated. Everything was clean and we felt very secure with the free parking available. Despite the restaurant being closed, the front staff went above and beyond by arranging tapas for us, which was incredibly kind. In the evening, the monastery became a popular spot for drinks, but the atmosphere was still respectful and we were able to have a peaceful and quiet night's sleep. The suite we stayed in was picture perfect, with beautifully decorated rooms and a spacious and updated bath. We couldn't have asked for a better location in the old city.

Despite the restaurant being closed, the helpfulness of the receptionist and the small breakfast provided still made our stay super ENJOYABLE. The hotel's amenities, including Wi-Fi and on-site car park, added convenience to our trip. We would definitely recommend this hidden gem to anyone seeking a memorable and unique experience.

The 350-year-old building is simply incredible, exuding a sense of history with its old timbers and worn staircase from the days when Monks inhabited it. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and felt cozy with the thick walls that maintained a perfect temperature. The staff, especially the guy who checked us in, went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. He even arranged an additional room for our son without any hassle. The restaurant had an enticing menu, although unfortunately, it was closed during our visit. However, we did enjoy the excellent bar food and reasonable prices. we were impressed with the character of the old building and the friendly staff.

“Pros”: Our stay at Convento San Roque was definitely worth the price. The room had a charming and cozy atmosphere, just like a nun's cell, with grates on the windows adding to its unique charm. The bed was comfortable and the spaciousness of the room was a pleasant surprise. The hotel's location was perfect, situated close to the heart of the village, and the staff treated us with great hospitality and kindness.
